The Daniel Was the First

1967 – EARLY YEARS / A GIANT IS BORN

The Daniel was originally built by Charlie Daniel as a headquarters for his companies, Daniel Construction Co. and Daniel International Corp. Groundbreaking was in 1964. Construction was completed late in 1966 the building opened on July 1, 1967. At the time, it was the tallest building in South Carolina.

1989 – ON THE RISE

Eventually, the Daniel companies merged with Fluor and moved into new corporate headquarters in Greenville. Meanwhile, the Daniel remained the home for many corporate tenants as downtown Greenville continued to evolve. The building went by a number of names over the decades, and was officially renamed the Landmark Building in 1999.

2024 – THE DANIEL STILL STANDS ALONE

Embracing its historical significance and mid-century architecture, a local ownership group acquired the building and renamed it The Daniel in 2024 amid a major renovation of the structure.
